"To foster the child within is to foster joy... "

- Eva Figes

Reflections. Georgia O'Keefe

"Now I become myself. It’s taken
Time, many years and places;
I have been dissolved and shaken,
Worn other people’s faces, run madly…
Now to stand still, to be here,
Feel my own weight and density!
All fuses now, falls into place,
Gathered into one intense
Gesture of growing."

- May Sarton

"Only connect! Live in fragments no longer... "

- E M Forster

"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart. And try to love the questions themselves."

- Rainer Maria Rilke

“The best way out is always through.”

- Robert Frost

"It is never too late to be what you might have been."

- George Eliot

Reflections. Roots

“I know the bottom, she says. I know it with my great tap root:
It is what you fear.
I do not fear it: I have been there.”

- Sylvia Plath

""How many of us have responded to early damage by growing more thickly, by making more flowers than we might otherwise have done? ... Just as the seed must grow beneath the ground establishing firm roots to uphold its growth, so our inner growth must be well rooted and nourished, until it is ready to be harvested."

- Patricia Monaghan

"What lies before us and what lies behind us are small matters compared to what lies within us. When we bring what is within us out into the world, miracles happen."

- Henry Thoreau

Reflections. Louise Bourgeois Mirror

"My therapist ... had always used the metaphor of a fun house mirror to describe how we make sense of our families of origin. For a decade she'd been shepherding me away from my weird, wobbly ... freak reflections into a brand-new way of seeing myself, clear as Baccarat crystal."

- Jill Soloway

"You need two things in a relationship. You need the will to make it work and you need to be able to make compromises. It's not hard to be right, but then you are right and alone."

- Esther Perel

Reflections. Hostage

“He realizes that this is the way it is, the way it must be: you don’t visit the lost, you visit the people who search for the lost.”

― Hanya Yanagihara

"In the shadow is the gold."

-C G Jung

"The purpose of psychotherapy is to set people free."

- Rollo May

Reflections. Mary & Molly

The Journey

"One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice -
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
'Mend my life!'
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do -
determined to save
the only life you could save."

- Mary Oliver
